Masters Degrees in Biochemistry at Otago

Biochemistry masters degrees can be taken under the auspices of either the Division of Sciences (MSc) or the Division of Health Sciences (MBiomedSc).

Two year MSc

The MSc in Biochemistry is usually a two-year degree taken by papers and thesis. It has a coursework component in the first year. The research component spans both years, the second year of the project allowing for significant progress to be made in both the research topic and the student's research skills. Master's work is often published in the literature.

Students who have already completed an honours degree or postgraduate diploma may choose to do a one-year research (thesis) MSc.

MBiomedSc

The Masters in Biomedical Science degree is a one year research (thesis) masters degree available to students who have completed an honours degree of postgraduate diploma. The MBiomedSc majoring in Molecular Basis of Health and Disease or Reproduction, Genetics and Development can be completed in the Department of Biochemistry.
