Much of the Otago Biochemistry research grouped under the biodiversity and agricultural productivity banner investigates the genetics and biochemistry of plants and other agriculturally relevant species, aiming to enhance agricultural productivity.

The research specialties in these labs range from the molecular mechanisms of plant development, reproduction and photosynthesis, through to body shape development during honeybee embryogenesis and finding new ways to use by-products from the dairy industry.

Our researchers also investigate some of the fascinating molecular mechanisms that are found in the diverse wildlife outside of the main focus of human activity, such as cold adaptation in Antarctic fish.
