Research
Dr Horak is a pharmacologist and toxicologist at the National Wildlife Research Center, United States Department of Agriculture. Dr Horak’s research interests include both environmental toxicology and the development of novel toxicants for the control of pest wildlife species.
Katherine is studying the fate and impact of chemical compounds on wildlife species; these compounds include environmental contaminants such as crude oil and agrochemicals such as anticoagulant rodenticides. Dr Horak also uses her background in pharmacology and human drug development to research novel toxicants used to control pest species. She develops species specific toxicants with low risks to non-target species and environmental burden. Her laboratory is currently investigating the use of interfering RNA, RNAi, as a mechanism to control pest species.
