Glen Maguire & Clickthrough
Not only did Glen Maguire (MBA 28 2005) benefit directly from his studies in Dunedin, his company Clickthrough has played a major role in revamping the MBA website.
Glen says he enrolled for the MBA study as a way of "gaining the broader commercial skills I needed to set-up and grow a digital marketing agency in New Zealand."
"I particularly needed to ramp up my skills to an executive level in finance, accounting and law, and build a New Zealand and Australian business network."
"He says the most difficult element was balancing his study commitments and family responsibilities. With a two year old and another child on the way, Glen was initially concerned about fitting everything in. But with his syndicate groups working to tight schedules and three holiday periods during the year, there was plenty of family time available. He was also impressed with the mentor programmes where knowledge was shared between syndicate groups, which "helped quite a bit with subjects where I was less comfortable."
Glen says he really enjoyed meeting a group of similar-minded individuals from all over the world and learning a range of new skills that he has put to good use in growing his business in the real world.
"The MBA also taught me the fundamentals of networking and introduced me to an alumni base that I later leveraged as an asset to secure clients.
"The MBA has had a huge impact on my career," he says.
"It gave me a set of functional skills and the confidence to pursue my goal of setting up my own digital marketing agency. I established Clickthrough within two years of completing the course. The MBA also gave me a stronger leadership orientation and guidance in managing and encouraging diverse groups of people to achieve goals under pressure."
Glen’s company Clickthrough is now recognised as one of the premier digital marketing agencies in the country and he readily acknowledges that it is, in most part, due to the skills he developed in completing the Otago MBA. Clickthrough is currently breaking into the Australian market with what Glen calls "huge success."
