Professor David Lont, President AFAANZ
Department of Accounting & Finance Professor David Lont (BCom (Hons), Accountancy & Finance 1988; PhD, Accounting 2001) has recently taken the reins as New Zealand President and joint Chair of the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ).
AFAANZ is the premier body representing the interests of accounting and finance academics and others interested in accounting and finance education and research in Australia and New Zealand. The Association was established in 1960.
With a turnover of around $900,000 annually, the AFAANZ incorporates a series of goals including the promotion of study of accounting and finance disciplines, the dissemination of relevant research, and the awarding of prizes and research scholarships to encourage entry into the industry.
As well as hosting a large annual conference where attendees number 400-plus, the association creates and fosters special interest groups for members, publishes several journals and oversees a doctoral consortium.
Previous Otago-based presidents of the AFAANZ have been Associate Professor Boris Popoff (deceased), Emeritus Professor Alan MacGregor and Professor Roger Willett (now at UTAS).
