The University of Otago’s Business School has been re-accredited with the respected international EQUIS accreditation.
EQUIS is a stringent European quality standard held by only 159 business schools in 40 countries. EQUIS accreditation identifies those business schools with world-class faculty, resources and facilities, and provides assurances that current and prospective students will receive world-class education.
Otago Business School Dean, Professor George Benwell, said the School was delighted to receive confirmation that EQUIS accreditation had been secured for another three years.
“EQUIS re-accreditation confirms Otago is at the forefront of international business education. The School strives to ensure the quality of its teaching, research, facilities and opportunities available to students and staff are first rate, and as good as anywhere in the world - reaccreditation reinforces that what we are doing is working.”
To qualify for EQUIS accreditation, the School underwent a rigorous process of formal self-review and evaluation by a Peer Review Team of deans from accredited schools.
Panel members assessed the School against international criteria for business education quality. They interviewed staff, students and external stakeholders. The panel also examined curriculum delivery, research quality, and how the School connects with the business sector.
“Business School staff have worked hard to ensure students gain the education and experience that they and industry deserve, and that our researchers are considered some of the best in the world in their fields. Retaining EQUIS accreditation was certainly a team effort and confirms the School’s position as a top international business school.
“Reviews such as these always identify areas where panel members believe we can develop existing initiatives further or implement new strategies. I’m excited about exploring their recommendations further in the coming months,” says Professor Benwell.
