Abstract:

Orthopaedic practitioners always look for three dimensional visualisation of in vivo structures, especially bones. Having a CT scan and/or MRI is not always feasible, especially when it has to be done often over several years. CT scans are high in radiation which puts the patient at risk and MRI is expensive, quite scary, unbearably noisy and not possible where implants are present. I will describe a solution for reconstructing the 3D structure of lumbar spine from just two x-rays. The method can automatically create a 3D model from bi-planar x-rays and an initialisation from the user.
