University of Otago Business School's Master of Business Administration programme, the Otago MBA, is once again breaking new ground.

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has rated the Otago MBA among the top 200 MBAs worldwide for 2018. This is a major advancement from its 2017 rating in the superior category of the top 250.

The Otago MBA now ranks among the positions of 21-26 in Asia Pacific, which is another major improvement from its 2014 position of 32.

“This is a marvelous achievement. The Otago MBA is the only New Zealand MBA in the QS lists, and we are very proud of this new ranking,” Dean of Otago Business School Professor Robin Gauld says.

“A total of 13 criteria form the basis of five key indicators that QS uses to rank MBA programmes, which includes employability, entrepreneurship and alumni outcomes, return on investment, thought leadership, and class and faculty diversity,” he says.

“Coupled with its rigorous curriculum as well as its professional development and mentoring activities, the Otago MBA can rightfully claim its position as the leading MBA programme in New Zealand and among the best in Australasia.”

The Otago Business School's chief goal is to be a leader in business education globally.

“We have ambitious plans to expand beyond our current on-campus and online MBAs. Our immediate new venture is to work closely with the healthcare industry to bring its leadership and management skills to new heights with a Healthcare MBA,' says Ian Lafferty, Director of Executive Programmes.

“The Otago MBA will be setting up a steering and advisory committee with senior management executives from the healthcare industry to help scope the new curriculum.”

QS' international ranking is approved by International Ranking Expert Group (IREG), and is one of the most widely referenced for its ratings on universities and MBAs.
