The Otago Business School signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a Guangzhou, China-based tertiary institute on Friday, signalling the start of a new relationship.

Huashang College Guangdong University of Finance and Economics is a private tertiary educator owned by the Huashang Education Group, which also has a campus in Melbourne, Australia (the Global Business College of Australia).

"We value our international connections as we continue to grow the global brand of the Otago Business School."

Professor Yin Hua Guo, the Managing Vice-President of the Group, met with Otago Business School Dean Professor Robin Gauld and other representatives of Otago on Friday, and signed the MOU to explore how the two institutions can work together.

Professor Gauld says the School was delighted to have been approached by Huashang College and believed the relationship would be beneficial to both institutions.

It was possible a joint degree could result, with Chinese students spending time in Guangzhou before studying at Otago to complete the degree.

The Otago Business School is continuing to grow its connections in China and other countries. Professor Gauld recently returned from Otago’s first Doctorate of Business Administration conference held in Shanghai, at which students from the first and second Chinese cohorts presented their research and incoming students from the third cohort were welcomed to Otago.

“We value our international connections as we continue to grow the global brand of the Otago Business School,” he says. “We have a growing number of excellent relationships in China, which is an important partner for us. This new partnership with Huashang College should lead to a number of new initiatives which we are very excited about.”
