Cycleway-image
Cycleway – a map of the areas people can cycle on the perimeter of the Dunedin campus, including the University's official cycleway along St David Street, Leith Street and Leith Walk. The area shaded in Otago 'gold' is the pedestrian-friendly walk-your-wheels area of the central campus.

New signs and markings for the cycleway on the perimeter of the Dunedin Campus are being designed now, Property Services Division Director Dean Macaulay says.

The aim is to reflect the University Council's recent decision to ensure the central campus is as pedestrian-friendly as possible so people using personal transport devices – bicycles, scooters, skateboards, push scooters and roller blades etc – need to walk their wheels on the central campus.

The cycleway is:

On the east side of the campus, in a straight line along:

  • Leith Street (north)
  • Leith Walk – past the Allen Hall Theatre, University College and the Psychology Building, across the Water of Leith (dismount on the bridge) and through the car park between the Property Services and Arts buildings
  • Leith Street (south)

On the north side of campus, in a straight line along:

  • St David Street (east)
  • The pedestrianised area of St David Street – walk your wheels on the bridge across the Water of Leith and past the Centre for Innovation, St David café and the Proctor's Office to the bollards
  • St David Street (west)

Walk your wheels

  • All personal transport devices – including bicycles, scooters and skateboards – must walk their wheels through the central campus because this is a pedestrian-friendly area
  • People must also walk their wheels across both pedestrian bridges over the Water of Leith
