Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

The Doctor is Philosophy is the highest level of supervised research offered at Otago.

The degree of Doctor of Philosophy is awarded on the basis of the submission of a thesis.

The thesis should give evidence of the candidate's ability to carry out research, that the candidate has shown originality and independence, and that the candidate has made a significant contribution to knowledge in the particular field.

It is expected that some of the work in the thesis would be worthy of publication.

Students are normally admitted having completed a postgraduate qualification with a research component.

Requirements

Students are required to submit a thesis that shows evidence of research of a kind that could be expected to be completed within three-years of full-time study.

It can be completed on a part-time or full-time basis.
