Farmers will have the chance to learn about different approaches and methods next month at the For Farmers by Farmers information day.
The Centre's Marion Johnson is one of the organisers of the event, which will be held at Papakaio Hall, near Oamaru, on July 2.
The day will include talks from successful farmers Tim Fox, Jim O’Gorman, Peter Berryman, Mike Moss (from Country Calendar), Jeff Graham, Jeremy Casey and Alan O’Neill, who grow more feed than the district average, have no nitrate leaching problems and have healthy soils, pastures and stock (and minimal animal health costs).
Glenn Mead, chairman of the Organic Dairy and Pastoral group, will talk about experimenting with organics. Also present will be Cherryle Prew (Soil Foodweb), Peter Burton (Eco-Logic), Grant Paton (Environmental Fertiliser), Tom Walters (MRI), Merv Solly (Golden Bay Dolomite), and Jim O’Gorman.
The day will be catered by Bevan Smith of Riverstone Kitchen and costs $50 to attend.
