Last year former summer scholarship recipient Leigh McKenzie was recognised for the work she carried out during her internship at the centre in 2017.
Leigh's project, which involved mapping the greater South Dunedin to identify what and who are most vulnerable to sea level rise, led to her being granted the New Zealand Esri Young Scholar award for 2017 and nominated for the New Zealand Emerging Spatial Professional award.

After finishing her summer studentship, Leigh completed a MSc in Environmental Management and is now working for the Dunedin City Council as the Waste Minimisation Officer. Leigh shares her experience as an Esri Young Scholar in this personal account.
