Abstract

In smart grids, electric utilities turn to real-rime energy management to optimally match supply and demand. A key energy management activity is demand response, defined as changes in electricity usage of end-users in response to signals reflecting prices, incentives or penalties. As changes at a household-level are not as effective as those taking place collectively at a group of households, where aggregated loads offer strong potentials and flexibility, the focus of Salma's research is at the community-level. She is investigating the scalability and fairness of demand response programmes leveraging smart-grid infrastructures to target residential communities.
