Overview

Inpatients suffering from severe depression also have very significant cognitive impairment and reduced activity levels which remain even at discharge.

We have therefore designed an intervention which targets the inactivity with behavioural activation therapy and the cognitive impairment with a cognitive activation therapy.

We are conducting a randomised controlled trial of this activation therapy versus treatment as usual.

One of the key outcomes will be neuropsychological function and we are seeking a PhD student with an interest in cognitive function and mental illness to undertake a PhD in this area.
