Christchurch Mood Disorders Workshop

Designed for Consultant Psychiatrists and Senior Psychiatric Registrars, this two-day workshop examines all aspects of the clinical psychiatric management of mood disorders. We will extend knowledge and themes from the previous workshops while still providing a stand-alone educational package.

Convenors: Professor Gin S. Malhi, Professor Richard J. Porter, Professor Roger T. Mulder

The format will be interactive with smaller group discussions. Participants will be encouraged to bring cases for discussion in the group and to submit cases prior to the workshop so that we can select cases for the whole group to consider.

Sessions will include:

  • Algorithms for treatment resistant depression and bipolar disorder
  • Management of mania and mixed states and new diagnostic ideas regarding mixed mood states
  • Long term management of Bipolar disorder
  • Psychotherapies for depression and bipolar disorder
  • Electroconvulsive therapy and newer neuro-stimulatory therapies– clinical indications and use
  • Understanding the evidence from clinical trials in mood disorders
  • Chronobiological treatment for mood disorders
  • Hormonal issues in the management of mood disorders
