About Dr Jenni Manuel

Dr Jenni Manuel is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Māori Indigenous Health Innovation and the Department of Psychological Medicine. She has postgraduate teaching responsibilities in both departments, with subject areas including Hauora Māori, nature and extent of mental disorders, and mental health nursing. She has active supervisory roles with masters' and PhD students.

Her research interests include Māori mental health inequity, improving service delivery for people experiencing severe mental illness, and early psychosis. She is the principle investigator on a study evaluating a peer-led acute service for severe mental illness and also takes a lead role in a major HRC grant-funded project that is investigating pathways to first episode psychosis and outcomes for Māori rangatahi. Other research projects include Māori experiences of eating disorders and physical health of Māori with psychosis. She is also a trained IPSRT therapist on clinical trials for mood disorders.
