‘Vitamin C for life’ research and education
We know that patients with severe infections such as pneumonia and sepsis have low vitamin C levels and need higher intakes than healthy individuals. We are investigating the optimal levels required and how to best administer vitamin C to these patients.
Intravenous administration of vitamin C may be required for people who have serious illnesses such as severe infection. This is because intravenous administration bypasses the regulated intestinal uptake of oral vitamin C and provides significantly higher levels in the blood than oral intakes.
