Background
This research is funded by the Ministry of Health via the Clinical Leaders' Association of New Zealand (CLANZ). The research team (led by Professor Emeritus Laurence Malcolm) has reviewed the literature on quality and clinical leadership and has undertaken surveys of quality and leadership practice in a sample of district health boards and primary health organisations. The project is also examining the way in which medical and nursing leadership and quality management personnel are developing their roles within district health boards.
