Easter Rising Commemoration for Irish Studies Chair

The Irish Embassy, New Zealand organised 'Mise Eire – I am Ireland': A virtual gathering – to commemorate the Easter Rising Anniversary. Professor Sonja Tiernan gave an address on the significance of the Rising entitled, ‘The birth of an Irish nation; a global perspective.

There were a series of wonderful talks, readings and performances and a highlight that will live long in the memory for all of us was the reading of the Proclamation, first read by Pádraig Pearse outside by the GPO in Dublin at noon on Easter Monday, in Te Reo Māori by our good friend Barry Soutar.
