AI and Neural Networks Research Group - Natural Language

Many projects in our group focus on human language and language processing mechanisms.

  • One research area is in how the brain implements language, and the interface between language and other cognitive modalities, such as visual perception and motor control. Most work in this area relates to an ongoing Marsden project, Does language mirror the structure of sensorimotor cognition? This project involves development of neural network models of language and its links to sensorimotor modalities.
  • We have also done research in computational linguistics, developing models of discourse structure, natural language generation and human-machine dialogue.
  • Language modelling research is also carried out in the Information Retrieval research group.
