A supervised project involving original research and leading to the production of a dissertation.
This is a full-year research project, generally individual, carried out under the supervision of one or more staff members. A list of project proposals is provided at the preliminary lecture, but it is possible to arrange projects of a student's own choice if a staff member is available and willing to act as supervisor.

- There are no formal prerequisites for the 400-level papers, but prior knowledge is assumed. Admission to these papers is restricted not only by numbers, but by satisfactory grades in 300-level COSC papers.

- Assessment is based on a mid-year presentation, interim report and final report at year's end.
