COVID-19 information for new international students currently in New Zealand

International students currently in New Zealand applying for 2021 bachelor’s studies

All international students who are currently in New Zealand and who are admitted to start full-time bachelor’s studies in 2021 for the first time at a New Zealand university, will be awarded a Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship for International Students (New Zealand) valued at NZ$10,000.

The scholarship will be credited to the student’s 2021 tuition fees account. This scholarship offer also includes a guaranteed place in University accommodation, either in an Otago residential college or a UniFlat (subject to a satisfactory reference and completing an accommodation application).

This scholarship and accommodation guarantee offer is in recognition of the additional challenges international students in New Zealand are facing this year, particularly in being unable to make a return trip to visit their families back home over the summer, and in support of their decision to stay in the country as they prepare to commence university studies at Otago in 2021.

There is no additional application process required to be offered this scholarship. Eligibility will be assessed as part of your admission application. Formal scholarship offers will be sent via eVision.

Residential college applications closed on 30 September, however applications for UniFlats accommodation continue to be accepted until 1 November. We encourage you to start your Otago admission application and submit an accommodation application as soon as possible.

Accommodation applications received from 1 October may be considered for the residential colleges as places become available.

Accommodation applications received from 2 November may be considered for UniFlats as places become available.

If you applied for a University of Otago Entrance Scholarship you will still be considered for this. If your application is successful for any scholarships with a higher value than the Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship for International Students (New Zealand) you will be awarded the scholarship of highest value instead. If you are awarded a higher value entrance scholarship you will retain the accommodation guarantee noted above.
