Terms of Reference

To take responsibility for, and provide oversight of, the University's artworks collections.

To establish a framework to manage and develop the University's artworks.

To develop policy and procedure for:

  • The purchase of artworks
  • The acceptance of gifts or bequests of artworks
  • The deaccession of artworks
  • The conservation, protection and maintenance of artworks
  • The loan of artworks by or to the University

To seek funding and resources for the purchase and continued conservation, protection and maintenance of artworks.

To promote the display of artworks so that they are accessible to the University community and, where appropriate, the public.

To make recommendations to the Vice-Chancellor on the installation of murals and similar decorative artistic features on campus.

To report to the Vice-Chancellor periodically on the status of the artworks collections.

Composition

Registrar and Secretary to the Council (Convener)
Representative from the University Library
Representative from Property Services
Representative from Campus and Collegiate Life Services
2–3 members from suitably qualified/experienced/interested academic and/or professional staff
The power to co-opt a member from outside the University if it is considered necessary to add balance or enhanced perspective to the membership.
