Ms Ellison was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2018 for services to Māori, the arts and governance.
She has significant experience working for her iwi in the areas of communication and community development. She is currently Runaka Manager for Kati Huirapa Runaka ki Puketeraki.
Ms Ellison is a member of a number of the University Council's committees, including the Honorary Degrees, People and Culture, Capital Development and Strategy and Planning Committees.
