A critical examination of existing knowledge about effective teaching, reviewing a wide variety of models, case studies and research findings. This paper uses print-based material, video clips, and the Internet as the principal delivery systems.
This paper is intended for people with a strong interest in teaching, predominantly experienced classroom teachers. It invites participants to learn about, understand and critically examine theories, research and case studies that throw light on the effectiveness of teaching. A wide range of stimulus material is used, and extensive discussion among the diverse group of participants further enriches the knowledge base of the paper. Teaching of a wide range of subjects, skills and attitudes is considered, emphasising the interdisciplinary and integrative nature of good teaching. Students are able to focus substantially on their own areas of interest in the four assignments while sharing in main readings and interactive learning with all other participants.
