Independent in-depth exploration of an educational issue, comprising either a review of relevant literature, or completion of a study approved by the Dean of the College of Education.
This 40-point paper enables you to spend the year exploring an issue of interest to you. Through either a literature-based or empirical study, you will answer a question that you have always wondered about. You will work with a supervisor for the year and can complete the paper either on campus or by distance.

- Limited to
- BA(Hons), PGDipArts, MA(Thesis)
- Students outside of the approved programmes, with 54 300-level EDUC points, may be admitted with approval from the Dean of the College of Education.
- Students need to have a degree in education and be in either the PGDipArts (Education) or BA(Hons) (Education) programmes to complete this paper. Normally, you need to either have done or be doing a research methods paper (eg EDUC 407).

The paper is co-ordinated by our Postgraduate Co-ordinator (Education Studies), and you will work with one of our teaching staff on your project.
- Paper Structure
- You spend the year focused on your topic. You will determine the topic and structure in your first meeting with your supervisor.
- Teaching Arrangements
The Distance Learning offering of this paper is taught remotely.
It requires you to submit a report of your study (based on either literature or data) of up to 15,000 words.
