On successful completion of this paper, students will be able to:
- Understand the phenomenon of migration and forced migration
- Understand theories and practice of immigration and refugee law
- Understand and explain the legal concepts of citizenship, visa, refugee status, protected person status and deportation
- Understand and apply the provisions of the New Zealand Citizenship Act 1977 and the New Zealand Immigration Act 2009
- Critically reflect on the relations between state interest and the human rights of individuals evident in immigration and refugee law and policy
- Design and execute a research project on immigration and refugee law
