    Learning Outcomes

    On successful completion of this paper, students will be able to:

    • Understand the phenomenon of migration and forced migration
    • Understand theories and practice of immigration and refugee law
    • Understand and explain the legal concepts of citizenship, visa, refugee status, protected person status and deportation
    • Understand and apply the provisions of the New Zealand Citizenship Act 1977 and the New Zealand Immigration Act 2009
    • Critically reflect on the relations between state interest and the human rights of individuals evident in immigration and refugee law and policy
    • Design and execute a research project on immigration and refugee law
