    International jurisdiction of domestic courts. Choice of law. International litigation. Enforcement and recognition of foreign judgements.

    This paper offers an introduction to the conflict of laws - the law dealing with cross-border elements of civil and commercial relations. The following topics will be covered: principles of international jurisdiction; the choice of law process; international litigation procedure; and the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgements.

    Students who successfully complete this paper will:

    • Identify conflict of laws problems
    • Identify the conflict of laws rules and principles applicable to the problem
    • Analyse primary sources on the conflict of laws
    • Apply conflict of laws rules and principles to new cross-border problems
    • Evaluate the underlying purposes of the conflict of laws and the means by which these may be achieved
