    Overview

    Fundamental knowledge and skills in management of a broad spectrum of women's reproductive health issues, including pubertal development, menopause, vulval conditions, menstrual disorders, sexual health and screening, and affirmation of gender and sexual diversity.

    OBGY 715 gives a grounding beyond undergraduate training in women's reproductive health issues, covering adolescent health, screening for sexually transmitted infections and common presentations, such as menstrual disorders, vulval disorders and menopausal issues.

    Eligibility

    Recommended for general practitioners (GPs) and GP registrars and sexual health physicians, midwives, practice nurses, family planning and public health nurses and those doctors considering a future in sexual and reproductive health, general practice, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, emergency medicine.

    One of four distance-taught papers that are offered as part of Postgraduate Certificate in Women's Health (PGCertWHlth) and Postgraduate Diploma in Obstetrics and Medical Gynaecology (PGDipOMG) programmes
    Teaching Arrangements

    This Distance Learning paper is taught remotely. It consistes of six 2-hour evening audioconferences via Zoom over three months.The teaching platform is hsmoodle.otago.ac.nz which is used for prelearning and preperation activities. There are six assignments. 

    Textbooks

    There is no single textbook for this paper. Readings will be provided for students to access via the Library, with additional readings and other multimedia material provided via Moodle.

    Learning Outcomes

    On successful completion of this paper, students will be able to: 

    1. Demonstrate clinical expertise in the medical management of sexual and reproductive health with low levels of complexity. 
    2. Demonstrate clinical expertise in the management of early gynaecological cancer diagnosis/screening, early pregnancy complications with appropriate consultation with a specialist. 
    3. Demonstrate understanding of relevant social and cultural issues that impact upon the provision of healthcare to women and their families/whanau. 
    4. Demonstrate self-learning in women’s health and other relevant areas of medical practice, including recognition of limits of their own knowledge and abilities. 
    5. Understand and explain underlying physiology and pathology, and the available assessment and management options in order to provide safe and effective care. 
    6. Solicit and accept constructive feedback. 
    7. Demonstrate values of fairness, empathy, acceptance, kindness, respect, and responsibility to and for all people.
