TOUR216 Sport Tourism

An application of tourism development concepts and themes to the subject of sport tourism. Critical consideration of theoretical and applied aspects of sport tourism in the context of their manifestations in space and time. Management implications and strategies relevant to the sustainable development of sport tourism businesses and destinations.

TOUR 216 explores the considerable and growing intersection between sport and tourism. These are two significant global industries, and the common interests between them continue to develope and grow. Common interests in sport and tourism extend to elite sports competitions, sports mega-events, recreational and participation sports, adventure activities, subcultural sports and the diverse manifestations of sports business.

The paper explores key concepts and theories that inform sport and tourism development. Key concepts are applied to sport-related tourism, in order to offer critical insights into aspects of sport business and tourism destination management.
