CHIN441 Advanced Topics in Chinese

Topics in Chinese language and culture, taught and examined in Chinese.

The number of people who are learning Chinese as a second language is increasing very rapidly. It is also the second most common language on the Internet. As China is an increasingly important business partner of New Zealand, learning Chinese will give you the edge over other candidates for a wide variety of jobs.

Eligibility
This paper is suitable for students specialising in any discipline with advanced (but non-native) Chinese language competency. The paper aims at enhancing students' reading ability and understanding of the cultural and sociopolitical context to which the examined texts belong.

Paper Structure
The class meets once a week (2 hours), and it has a seminar format in which the students are expected to read the assigned readings, prepare questions and lead the discussion in class.
