A history of the Pacific, from first human settlement to the late twentieth century.

This paper surveys the history of the Pacific, from first human settlement to the late twentieth century. Key themes include maritime explorations, cross-cultural encounters, colonial rule and political, social and environmental change. It follows the movement and exchange of people, things and ideas - between islands, with nations on the ocean's rim and with the wider world.
