The Otago BA: The degree of choice

Unlike other universities we won’t tell you what you have to study. The choice is in your hands.

We’ve designed the Otago BA with your freedom in mind, including:

  • no core (required) papers
  • no compulsory double degree or double major requirements, you do these if you wish
  • a choice of close to 40 major subjects
  • a choice of 10 to 15 papers per major
  • more variety in your degree leads you to a wider choice of careers

We provide guided freedom for your BA

Even though we give you all the choice we won’t leave you on your own. We will help you to navigate your way through your degree, to find pathways that suit your needs and interests.

With so many major subjects in the BA you have a world of knowledge to choose from. You can add in a double major, a minor or even a double degree – the choice is yours.

Employers want the range of skills a BA degree gives

Employers seek Arts graduates for the wide range of skills they gain in the BA degree. Over 90% of Otago’s BA graduates are in employment or further training related to their degree eighteen months after they graduate.

In the Otago BA degree you also have the opportunity to gain skills in a workplace through our internship programme.
