Editorial

I have been involved with Deep South since 1996 when I began my PhD research at the English Department. Doing a PhD can, at times, be a lonely and alienating undertaking because of the specificities and intensity of one’s study. For many of us, however, the production of Deep South has brought post-graduates into close contact with each other and engendered a warm academic environment. More importantly, the skills acquired in selecting and editing articles have been extremely useful—I have certainly picked up tips along the way which have helped to sharpen my own prose and better refine my research analysis. As I bid the Deep South team farewell, I hope this electronic journal continues to provide post-graduates with an outlet to publish their work within an international community. Your contributions to Deep South are a valuable source of dialogue which encourage and promote academic discussion across many fields of interest. I wish Deep South well for the future and urge you all to participate in what has been for me, an enriching experience.
