Overview
Radiography offers a full range of dentomaxillofacial x-ray imaging.
Over 12,000 patients visit Radiography each year, for services including:
- Extraoral imaging
- Intraoral imaging
- Specialist imaging studies including 3D Cone Beam CT CBCT
Radiography services and teaching
Radiography receives x-ray imaging requests from all clinics within the Faculty of Dentistry and from private dental practitioners. Radiographs are also undertaken for research and forensic purposes.
Undergraduate dental, oral health students and postgraduate students receive clinical teaching and education in all aspects of x-ray imaging.
Equipment at Radiography
Extraoral imaging equipment
- Orthophos® XG 3D Ceph (Sirona) installed July 2016 is a direct digital panoramic, cephalometric and small FoVs 5 X 5.5, 8 X 5.5 and 8 X 8 cms CBCT
- Galileos® (Sirona) Cone Beam CT 3D installed 2010 offers up to 15 cms FoV
- Cranex Tome® (Soredex) installed 2008 offers panoramic, cephalometric and spiral wide- angled tomography
- Schonander® skull unit
Intraoral equipment
- Two Soredex Minray® x-ray machines and a Planmeca Prostyle® machine
Ancillary clinics
- Four Soredex Minray® machines and a Planmeca Prostyle® mobile unit operate in other locations in the Dental School
Film processing
- Carestream Insight® F speed intraoral film is used and processed in AT 2000 processors
- Carestream T Mat G RA® extraoral films are processed in an All Pro 100 Plus processor
Digital imaging equipment
- A Soredex Digora Optime® image phosphor plate scanner is on site
Viewing of extraoral digital images
- Laptops are available in undergraduate clinics as well as in Oral Surgery and Primary Care. Three dedicated viewing stations are available for CBCT images
