Sir Thomas A. Hunter Scholarship in Dentistry

Established in 1951 by a gift from Sir Thomas Hunter, to encourage research in Dentistry.

Details

  • The Scholarship shall be awarded by the University Council to a dental graduate of the University of Otago, preference being given to candidates whose intended careers are in teaching and research
  • The scholar shall pursue a course of full-time study and research at the Faculty of Dentistry

Application

Applications for the scholarship shall be made in writing and be accompanied by a full curriculum vitae. It would assist the Faculty if applicants also supply any other relevant information they feel would be helpful in arriving at a decision.

Westpac Trust Scholarship in Dentistry

This scholarship was founded in 1937 by the Trustees of the Dunedin Savings Bank, who made a donation of £500 to the University; this sum was to be invested in approved securities, and the income was to be used to provide a Postgraduate Scholarship in Dentistry.

Details

  • The scholarship shall be open to a student who, within the three years immediately preceding application, has completed the course for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) of the University of Otago
  • If in any year there is more than one applicant, the scholarship will be awarded to the candidate with the best undergraduate academic record
  • The holder of the scholarship shall undertake postgraduate study approved by the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry
  • The scholarship may be held with any other scholarship, the terms of which do not conflict with the conditions of this scholarship
  • The scholarship shall be offered from time-to-time as funds allow
  • If there is at any time a surplus of income in the fund, the Council may increase the value of a scholarship
  • With the approval of Westpac Trust, the Council may alter these regulations from time-to-time
