Research

My main interests are in children’s coping, acceptance and preferences, and anxiety related to dental treatment, and outcomes of dental care in primary care.

A large part of my research centres on the use of the Hall Technique (HT) to place stainless steel crowns to treat decayed primary molar teeth. The HT has derived public and media interest because there is no removal of dental decay, hence no drilling, and no use of local anaesthetic injections. However, although studies so far have shown excellent clinical outcomes, children’s attitudes and preferences in relation to the treatment in New Zealand are not known.
