Associate Professor Andrew Reynolds
EDOR researchers Andrew Reynolds and Lara Vlietstra have been recognised in the University of Otago promotions round that takes effect today.
EDOR Co-Director Andrew Reynolds, based in the Department of Medicine, has been promoted to Associate Professor.
Andrew is interested in lifestyle risk factors such as what we eat and when we move, and health outcomes such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease. He uses systematic review processes to synthesise current research knowledge and conducts randomised controlled trials to generate new knowledge.
His work has informed international clinical and dietary guidelines, including for the World Health Organization and the European Association for the Study of Diabetes.
Dr Lara Vlietstra, from the School of Physical Education, Sport and Exercise Sciences, has been promoted to senior lecturer.
Lara’s research explores the role of physical activity and 24-hour movement patterns in promoting healthy ageing, with a focus on increasing movement through activities like gardening.
By investigating age-related decline and targeting prevention measures to earlier life stages, such as middle age, Lara aims to develop interventions that reduce the risk of sarcopenia (age-related, progressive loss of muscle mass and strength), falls, and frailty, to enhance healthy and positive ageing.
