Associate Professor Ben Wheeler, an EDOR researcher working on type 1 diabetes, has spoken with Lisa Owen on RNZ's Checkpoint about the issue with continuous glucose monitoring in New Zealand.

Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGM) can dramatically increase the quality of life for those living with diabetes and their families yet, unlike in Australia, CGM devices are not funded in Aotearoa. This means that many families cannot afford to pay for these life changing diabetes management technologies that can cost more than $4000 per year.

During Diabetes Action Month 2022, EDOR is supporting Diabetes NZ to take action for diabetes in Aotearoa NZ. We are calling on the New Zealand Government to fund CGM in NZ, which will not only improve the lives of those living with diabetes, but will decrease the pressure on our over-burdened health system.

Listen to Associate Professor Ben Wheeler and NZ families living with type 1 diabetes talk with RNZ's Lisa Owen about CGM.
