Edgar Diabetes and Obesity Research's two 'Leading Thinkers' have been celebrated by the University of Otago, ten years on, with special events and a commemorative book.

The 'Leading Thinkers Initiative' was established ten years ago as part of the government's Partnerships for Excellence Framework. The Initiative invested in people who were knowledge leaders working in areas considered vital to New Zealand's well-being.

Professor Jim Mann, Director of EDOR, was the first appointment of the Initiative, with considerable financial support from the Eion and Jan Edgar Charitable Trust. EDOR was doubly fortunate in that Associate Professor Rachael Taylor (Co-Director) was appointed the following year with support from KPS Society Limited with the creation of the Karitane Senior Research Fellowship in Early Childhood Obesity.

During those ten years Jim and Rachael have been joined by Dr Kirsten Coppell (Co-Director) and Research Manager Dr Cherie Stayner.

EDOR currently has 14 members plus numerous collaborative research relationships. It continues to share research discoveries with clinicians, practitioners, educators, communities, schools and policy-makers, in New Zealand and internationally.
