Several EDOR researchers featured in the Otago Spotlight Series forum on cardiovascular disease, held in Wellington on Tuesday, 20 September 2016. Over a dozen University of Otago researchers provided short, easy-to-understand outlines of their work on cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Professor Jim Mann's presentation "Cardiovascular disease in perspective" gave an overview and historical background of the topic, particularly as it applies to New Zealand, with examples of the nutritional controversies that impact on CVD risk.

Dr Rachael McLean discussed the research on "Dietary salt and cardiovascular disease", and the challenges we face in trying to achieve the World Health Organization (WHO) global target of a 30% reduction in population salt intake.

Professor Sally McCormick introduced two lipoprotein risk factors associated with heart disease that are not currently addressed by drug or dietary interventions, and outlined her research into potential ways to modify the activity of these factors to reduce CVD risk.
