Research

Sharon Leitch is a general practitioner who currently holds a New Zealand Health Research Council funded Clinical Research Training Fellowship.

Sharon has been examining patient safety in primary care since 2014, initially as the GP Coordinator for the Patient Harms in New Zealand General Practices: Records Review study (HRC 14-185). That work focused on the epidemiology of patient harm observable from general practice records in New Zealand.

Since 2018 Sharon has been researching ways of improving patient safety in primary care using a mixed methods approach (HRC 18-031). This work aims to inform patients about their risk of medication harm, promoting patient self-efficacy and facilitating shared decision-making between patients, their whānau and clinicians.
