Calcium sensitivity and phosphorylation status of myofilament proteins in trained and untrained diabetic rats
Many aspects of the diabetic heart are not well-understood. Angie's PhD thesis attempted to better understand the effects of chronic hyperglycaemia on key myofilament proteins that regulate contraction at the level of the sarcomere. Additionally, endurance training is known to be beneficial for this patient population, but it remained untested if an exercise intervention might also affect the functioning of contractile proteins within the diabetic heart.
Angie will discuss her findings on the trained and untrained diabetic heart at this seminar.
All University of Otago and Southern District Health Board staff and students are welcome to attend.
