Professor Jim Mann, Co-Director of the Edgar Diabetes and Obesity Research (EDOR) Centre, has been recognised in the 2022 New Year Honours.

Professor Mann has been made a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to health.  His research has been included in almost 400 scientific publications and 90 book chapters, and has informed world-leading interventions in the fields of coronary heart disease and diabetes.

As well as being the founding Director (and now Co-Director) of EDOR, Professor Mann is also the current Director of the Healthier Lives National Science Challenge, which undertakes research to equitably improve the treatment and prevention of cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity.

Professor Mann was surprised to receive this personal honour, but views the award as collective acknowledgement of the many colleagues he has worked with over the years, and recognition of what they “have done for a long period of time”.
