Ms Sharon White
|Department||Department of Pathology (DSM)|
Sharon restores gross specimens for the Department of Pathology. This role encompasses the preservation of teaching specimens primarily for medical students and the Drennan Pathology Museum housed in the Hunter Centre.
The Pathology Museum is a vital teaching resource for medical, dental, physiotherapy, pharmacy, nursing, and many more Health Sciences students. It is important that the specimens in the museum are well maintained in order to be used for teaching.
This intricate and specialised work involves the removal of specimens from old pots, stitching and rebuilding the backing plates and resealing pots, and photographing and cataloguing the specimens.
Sharon is also contracted to restore Christchurch and Wellington's specimens for their museums and medical students.
