Mystery of Southland's high bowel cancer rates may be solved

The mystery of why Southland has the highest rates of bowel cancer in New Zealand, and among the highest in the world, may soon be revealed.

Leading the 18-month study investigating the high rates of bowel cancer is Professor Brian Cox , Director of Preventive and Social Medicine's Hugh Adam Cancer Epidemiology Unit.

The Southland Medical Foundation has kindly pledged $188,000 for the study, which Professor Cox says will go a long way towards getting some answers to this enigma.
