Research summaryPacific Island youth with mental health conditions and life outcomes – evidence from the NZ IDI

This study focuses on Pacific Island youth with mental health conditions, and whether having these conditions can affect outcomes such as health, education, and socioeconomic status in later life.

Information is gathered through the use of the New Zealand Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI), and focuses on New Zealand youth of Pacific Island descent aged from 12 to 19 years.

The mental health conditions of interest are anxiety, depression, alcohol/substance abuse, and conduct disorder. The long-term outcome of this research aims to inform the development of interventions for Pacific youth with mental disorders in order to minimise the risk of poor life outcomes during adulthood.
