Mark completed his MCom (Economics) from the University of Natal in 2003. He has held both Tutor (2000-2002) and Lecturer (2003-2010; 2012-2013) positions at the same university. In pursuing his love of teaching, he completed his PGCE (FET) in 2008. Later, to diversify his teaching and research interests, he completed his MSc (Education) from the University of Edinburgh in 2011. In the past, his research focused on the informal sector in various areas of KwaZulu-Natal and modelling economic growth in South Africa. In recent times, following a more inter-disciplinary approach, he has conducted applied research together with his wife, Tracey Millin, in the field of Educational Linguistics. For his PhD, given his interests in Economics and Education, he is working on investigating the role of various macroeconomic variables in determining national-level public spending on education patterns.
