Accredited Facilitators

The accredited facilitators of the Education Support Services can offer targeted support to schools to address the literacy underpinning the demands of the Curriculum. An evidence based approach is used to enhance the student achievement by integrating literacy in all learning areas. Literacy support is comprehensive and can address all aspects of reading and writing as well as oral language to support students to meet the language demands of across the curriculum.

We support schools by:

  • Providing professional development in literacy leadership at all levels of both primary and secondary
  • Building pedagogical practice in literacy, including adolescents, with teachers across the curriculum
  • Helping teachers to inquire into their literacy practice by using data and other tools
  • Evaluating the impact of the inquiry to meet identified goals
  • Supporting PCT teachers setting up programmes and effective practice

This will be achieved by:

  • In-depth support with a team of teachers in a school, which includes regular visits to meet with focus teachers, observations, wananga each term to share progress of target students, professional development with curriculum groups
  • Working with a group of schools and CoLs as a cluster
  • Sharing practices that support students to learn
  • Building skills in data analysis and ways of using the data to improve literacy achievement
  • Tailoring a programme to meet the needs of individual teachers, school or cluster
